Location Spotlight: La Casa De La Guerra

La Casa De La Guerra

By Zohe Felici, Felici Events

CDL pic 7

Casa De La Guerra is one of the most important remnants of Santa Barbara’s Spanish-Mexican heritage and offers one of the most charming outdoor courtyards in all of Santa Barbara for any festivity.Located in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara, it’s zoning allows for a later noise curfew, making it one of the few outdoor venues permitted to play music as late as 1 a.m.

Another advantage of this picturesque Spanish Colonial location is its proximity to various downtown hotels.  This allows for out of town guests to easily walk to and home from the party as well as experience Santa Barbara’s local nightlife.

Ideal for rehearsal dinners, wedding receptions, or any party; the price tag on renting the Casa is minimal and offers complete privacy for your event.  With the ability to bring in your own rentals, caterers, etc. personalizing this venue is easy and does not break the bank while you enjoy your festivities under the stars!

Inviting Design: Honey-Do Shower

Sep 1st, 2010 | LillyandLouise

I love the idea of themed wedding showers, it makes the celebration just a little more fun (and maybe even a little easier for the host!). This “Honey-Do” theme is a great way to involve the bride and the groom, and their couple friends. In this sweet invitation, Lilly & Louise creates a visual play on the word “honey” with a hand-drawn touch that echoes the feeling of home that a jar of honey might inspire.

Mariana is a bride after my camera-candy heart!!  For their engagement session, she & her husband-to-be, Charlie, went all out! They rented a beach surrey, brought along their favorite Anthropologie fabric initials (love!), splurged on new outfits for everyone and had a slew of ideas and props for their adorable photos o’ love. Since they met at the University of California at Santa Barbara, it was so perfect that we closed their fun session at sunset on campus.

Piatti Ristorante & Bar, Montecito

By: Zohe Felici, Felici Events

Tucked in the heart of Montecito’s charming upper village, Piatti Ristorante is a gathering place both inviting and versatile for any celebration, including weddings, bridal showers and engagement parties.  There are three dynamic dining areas each conducive for hosting a unique affair from an intimate rehearsal dinner to a cocktail party for 100 guests.

Front 8-30-07 5

“The Patio” is reminiscent of an Italian Café with its tile floors and traditional trattoria style tables.  The canopied dining area accommodates 70 seated to 110 standing guests year round; and sits adjacent to a seasonal live creek under gigantic eucalyptus trees.

“The Dining Room” is suitable for quaint affairs up to 32 guests.  It homes a cozy fireplace and showcases a true culinary experience with an area overlooking the excitement of the bustling open kitchen.

Located off of the dining room,  the al fresco “Island” is ideal for fair weather events.  Seated banquet-style, 24 to 30 guests may be comfortably accommodated under the stars.

A commentary of ‘Piatti’, Italian for ‘plate’, wouldn’t be complete without discussing its delectable dishes.  Two popular menu items are the Grilled Salmon with Cherry Tomatoes & Basil Butter and the Baked Chicken with Balsamic Glaze & Watercress – each beautiful plate bursts with flavorful ingredients at a comfortable Italian Trattoria price.

Inviting Design: Spanish Tile Style

Aug 25th, 2010 | LillyandLouise

Santa Barbara is known for its rich Spanish culture–beautiful details such as red tile roofs, whitewashed stucco and hand-painted tiles decorate this special city. We at Lilly & Louise created this Spanish Tile wedding invitation to reflect such lovely details. This invitation is simple, bold and stylish…and therefore, perfectly Santa Barbara. The tile speaks for itself with its hand-painted irregularities and aged imperfections. The tile, paired with a classic typeface, sets the mood for this special wedding.

This design can also be easily carried over from an invitation suite to place cards, thank you notes and even ceremony programs.

Love Stories: Danielle and Erik

Aug 24th, 2010 | Liane

Photos and story by Janey of Mary Jane Photography

There is nothing sweeter than high school sweethearts tying the knot!  These two love-birds were such a dream to photograph – I said “Jump!” and they said “How high?”  I nodded and smiled towards the cold ocean water and as they laid down in it, I swear I heard them say, “We thought you’d never ask!”  Haha!  These two were up for anything – and that’s exactly how their love was…fun, youthful and alive…but oh-so sweet all at the same time!  I can’t wait for their wedding next year (with Joy Proctor of Joy de Vivre Weddings) – it’s going to be one fabulous party!

Santa Barbara Style: Bohemian Chic

Aug 23rd, 2010 | Liane

Bohemian Chic Inspiration

To say that this is simply an inspiration shoot isn’t completely true.  The lovely bride Kelly, is actually Photographer, Melissa Musgrove’s niece posing in her real wedding dress just prior to her Santa Barbara wedding last month. We love this sweet, family affair photo shoot and all of the beautiful boho-chic details.

Photographer: Melissa Musgrove   www.melissamusgrove.com

Event Designer: Merryl Brown events   www.merrylbrownevents.com

Florals: Laura Sangas,  www.codyfloral.com

Invitation design: www.petalosdipauli.com

Lighting: Bella Vista Design www.bellavistadesigns.com

Classical guitarist: George Quirin

The style of the shoot was bohemian chic.  Incorporating a combination of antiques and vintage family
heirlooms borrowed to blend the couple’s bohemian style with their love of elegant and charming touches.

The decor was enhanced by fresh floral elements of white daisies, inspired by Kelly’s dress, yellow tulips, white peonies, garden roses,
green berries, chamomile and gerberas. The arrangements set in small silver, rustic, galvanized and aged pewter vessels, were displayed on antique white linens.

Bride and Groom chair signs were created from pieces of wood, assorted beads and buttons.
Other fun details were the “she loves me, she loves me not” children’s pail  filled with daisies, garnished menu cards,
and chandeliers hanging from the majestic oaks.

The shoot took place at the Waters Jr. estate in Montecito, California built in 1932, set among majestic oaks, a meandering creek and organic vegetable garden.
