A Chat with the Gelato Experts at Sanders & Sons

To get the inside scoop (pun intended) on how the company works with couples on their big day, SBWS recently caught up with Sanders & Sons founder and food entrepreneur Sanders Marvin.


Q - What is your favorite location to work? What is the style that makes this location special for couples?

A - We love weddings and events in general! Gelato makes everyone happy, and to add a special treat to an already happy occasion is the best feeling in the world. We have served our gelato on the beach and in the mountains, at private homes and in some of the best wedding venues around. We are just lucky that way!


Q - What is your #1 top piece of advice you give to couples before they hire you?

A - We like to remind couples that it is THEIR wedding, and so we ask them about their favorite flavors and memories connected to gelato. We also remind them that they can and should ask for what they are dreaming of — we will do our best to make it happen! We also love to host tastings, so couples can come to the shop or the kitchen with their parents or friends, or make it a romantic outing to taste and pick their favorite flavors.


Q - What is trending with your couples?

A - Sundaes, sprinkles and cones! Many couples enjoy adding hot fudge to their gelato options. Chocolate is always a favorite, and seasonal flavors usually add an extra special twist.

Our favorite trend right now is that couples are venturing beyond traditional wedding cakes — we have been able to offer couples gelato and cupcake dessert, cookies and gelato, and lots of other, unique combos that are more representative of the couple.


Q - What are 2 things you wish couples would do for every wedding?

A - Wouldn’t it be great if every couple took the time to enjoy desert at their wedding? After a day of celebration, we love handing our couples a double scoop, and watch them sneak away for a moment to savor.

Q - To date, what wedding have you done that has made the top of your favorite list, and why?

A - This might sound cheesy, but we love every wedding because each one is different! One wedding, the bride loved cookies, and the groom loved gelato so we created a cookies and cream offering tailored to their taste. Another time, we brought our market cart and served pre-scooped scoops to guests right on the dance floor. What we love most about weddings is how much fun it is to come up with the perfect dessert that represents the couple’s sweet tooth.
