How AI Is Changing the Wedding Industry Online (For Couples)
Zohe’s Eye:
I'm going to say something that might surprise you coming from someone who has been trained in AI since 2023 — before most people were even willing to acknowledge it existed — and who uses it every single day to run her business: AI will not plan your wedding. It will not find you the right vendors, match you with the right planner, or tell you whether that vision in your head is actually possible in real life. It will, however, tell you exactly what you want to hear — which is precisely the problem.
I've been producing events for 25 years. I was here before Pinterest made every couple think they could replicate a $150,000 styled shoot on a $40,000 budget. And now I'm here watching AI do the same thing, just faster and with more confidence. So let's talk about it — honestly, because that's the only way I know how.
AI Is Just Pinterest With a Keyboard
Remember when Pinterest changed everything?
Suddenly couples arrived at planning meetings with boards full of jaw-dropping inspiration — chandeliers dripping from 40-foot ceilings, florals cascading over 30-foot tables, venues that existed exclusively in Tuscany or on the coast of Santorini. Beautiful. Aspirational. Completely untethered from reality, budget, or the specific constraints of an actual venue.
We called it the Pinterest problem. And we dealt with it — with love, with patience, and occasionally with a very direct conversation about what things actually cost.
AI is the Pinterest problem with a keyboard.
The images are more customized. The responses feel more personal. And the confidence with which it delivers completely impractical suggestions is, I have to say, impressive.
I recently had a client send me an AI-generated graphic of their vision for a birthday celebration for 30. It was stunning. Truly. There was just one problem — several problems, actually.
The tree in the image wasn't quite right. It was growing from a cliff. Which means to install the string lights and hang the very expensive chandeliers they'd envisioned, you would need either a tightrope walker or a window-cleaning contraption — and even then, the chandeliers would hang straight down into the cliff face, not over the tables where the guests would actually be sitting. The branch structure wasn't realistic to any tree that exists in nature, let alone on this property. Beautiful? Yes. Executable? Absolutely not.
And the tables? Placed directly over cobblestone. Which means every single guest would have spent dinner on a wobbly surface, trying not to spill their wine, subtly annoyed in that way people get when they can't quite identify why they're uncomfortable — while my client, who had spent weeks planning this moment, wondered why the energy felt off.
AI didn't know about the cobblestone. AI didn't know about the cliff. AI has never stood on that property, looked up at that tree, and thought — yeah, that's not going to work.
People who have been in this industry have. That's the difference.
3 Myths Worth Busting Right Now
MYTH 1: "AI Can Help Me Find the Right Vendors"
AI can give you a list. What it cannot give you is 25 years of relationships, reputation intel, firsthand experience, and genuine human intuition that tells you which florist is going to GET this couple, which photographer thrives in low light at this specific venue, and which caterer is going to show up early, stay late, and make the whole thing feel effortless.
Vendors know vendors. They are in the trenches together, every weekend, every season. They know who's best for what — for the design, the vibe, the budget, the personality of the couple. They have connections to find answers even when they don't have them personally.
When you skip that and go straight to AI for vendor recommendations, you're not taking the shortcut. You're taking the longest, most painful road — just one that feels efficient for about 20 minutes before the wheels come off.
And please — step away from the random Facebook groups too. I say this with love. Those groups are full of vendors chasing leads and couples chasing quick answers, and the combination rarely ends well. Nobody in that thread knows your vision, your budget, your personalities, or your venue. They're just the first to respond.
The right vendor match comes from someone who actually knows this industry, knows these personalities, and knows which combinations create magic — and which ones create chaos. That's what our vendor directory is for. That's what our blog is for. And if you want a private space to ask questions and get honest, curated guidance — not a sales pitch from a stranger — join our private Facebook Group for couples. It exists for exactly this reason: to help you get your planning off on the right foot, connected to the right people, from the very beginning.
MYTH 2: "AI-Generated Visuals Show Me What My Wedding Will Look Like"
See: the cliff. The cobblestone. The chandelier hanging into a rock face.
AI generates images based on patterns and prompts. It has no idea what your venue actually looks like, what your budget can actually support, or what the specific logistics of your day will actually allow.
Just like Pinterest before it, AI visuals are a starting point for a conversation — not a blueprint for execution. Bring them to your planner or designer and say "I love the FEELING of this." That's the right use. Send them to your florist and say "make this" without context, a site visit, or a reality check — and you're setting everyone up for disappointment.

MYTH 3: "AI Emails Are Fine"
No. They are not.
I will say this as directly as I know how: when a client sends me an AI-written email, and I can tell they didn't touch it — I know we're going to have communication problems. Not because they used AI to draft it. I use AI to draft things, too. But because they didn't bother to make it sound like themselves.
Events run on human connection. On trust. On being able to read between the lines of what someone is actually saying and respond to the real question underneath the question. When I'm reading an AI email, I am not reading you. I am reading a very polished, very generic, completely emotionless document that tells me nothing about who you are, what you actually want, or how I can best serve you.
That's where miscommunication happens. Dressed up in perfect grammar and bullet points, but miscommunication nonetheless.
Edit your emails. Put yourself in them. Your vendors will serve you better because of it — and the relationships you build will actually mean something.
The Bottom Line
AI is a tool. A genuinely useful, genuinely impressive tool — and I say that as someone who has been trained in it, uses it daily, and coaches others to use it effectively.
But a tool is only as good as the hands holding it. And in event and wedding planning, the most important thing those hands do is connect people — the right couples with the right vendors, the right vision with the right reality, the right moment with the right team to execute it.
No algorithm does that. No prompt gets you there.
The right people do.
