In the Fall of 2020, a team of wedding professionals in the Santa Barbara area came together to make the “Say Their Names Memorial “ possible.

Wanting to show solidarity for the Black community, the team recognized this provided a space for the black community to grieve while bringing awareness to the general public. Using their talents as a form to spread empathy and compassion.

Inspiration came from Joy Proctor of Joy Proctor Designs who created the first memorial. In honor of Juneteenth, Mrs. Proctor planned a memorial for 175 lives taken by police brutality, injustice and racism. A group of friends and kind passers-by helped put up photos and bouquets for each of the beautiful people who lost their lives. The goal was to spread awareness and honor the lives of too many, taken too soon. Currently the number of lives in the memorial is 216.

The main goal is to support black stories, bring healing for the Black community while bringing awareness to the general public. #saytheirnamesmemorial
